kozlekedes 20 | TO GO WITH AFP STORY BY FRANCOIS AUSSEIL A Burundian bicycle transporter in Bujumbura hangs onto the back of a motorcycle to take an almost effortless ride up the mountain on May 15, 2010. Hundreds of Burundians make a living by transporting goods and people to Burundi's capital Bujumbura from the surrounding hills around the capital. The bicycle transporters carry their loads for dozens of kilometers in the hope of selling their products at markets in the city for a profit. The bikers make on a good day anywhere from 3,000-5,000 Burundian francs (less than 2 to 4 US dollars). Nearly 70 percent of the population lives under the poverty line (1.25 US dollars a day), 90 percent depends on subsistence farming and only two percent have access to electricity.
